This position is responsible for reviewing and approving account reconciliations and journals prepared by staff. Balancing complex accounts that require extensive specialized knowledge, such as consolidating state taxes, federal taxes, and W-2’s. Reviewing single division balances and tax calculations for state and federal taxes. Preparing tax account balancing and reconciliation and tax payment calculations (reviewed by management) at the corporate level, including 941 Federal Withholding, Unemployment and Worker*s Compensation taxes. Overseeing annual car lease calculations and pay line entry for quality and timeliness. Reviewing and approving division level year end Contingent Compensation, Total Rewards Program bonus account, and W-2 balances and consolidating to the corporate level. Reviewing the processing of direct deposit reversals and returns and reviewing and approving journal entries. Analyzing proposed benefits changes and the relevant IRS regulations for their impact on payroll processing. Reviewing audit responses prepared by Accountant II*s and signs off on drafts.

Job Description:

  • Reviews and approves account reconciliations and journals prepared by staff. Balances complex accounts that require extensive specialized knowledge, including consolidated state taxes, federal taxes, and W-2’s.
  • Reviews single division balances and tax calculations for state and federal taxes. Prepares tax account balancing and reconciliation and tax payment calculations (reviewed by management) at the corporate level, including 941 Federal Withholding, Unemployment and Worker’s Compensation taxes. Researches and corrects errors. Prepares the request for check or wire payment.
  • Oversees annual car lease calculations and pay line entries for quality and timeliness.
  • Reviews and approves division level year end Contingent Compensation, Total Rewards Program bonus account, and W-2 balances and consolidates to the corporate level.
  • Reviews processing of direct deposit reversals and returns and reviews and approves journal entries.
  • Analyzes proposed benefits changes and the relevant IRS regulations for their impact on payroll processing, and presents and explains them to management in clear and understandable language.
  • Reviews audit responses prepared by Accountant II’s and signs off on drafts.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with co-workers, management, customers, etc.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in business.
  • 4 years experience with payroll accounting practices, processes, software, and legal requirements.
  • PeopleSoft experience
  • Statistical data analysis.
  • Knowledge of laws governing tax deposits.
  • Knowledge of annual payroll reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of State tax reciprocity arrangements.
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Project management skills.
  • MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Clear, concise communication with good grammar and appropriate word choice
