This ten-week paid internship is located in Chicago, IL

HCSC is doing innovative and important work to align incentives and analytics at the point of care by delivering actionable insights to providers. The IL Provider Performance Analytics, Insights and Data Science team delivers advanced analytics and insights as we lead the way to improve healthcare by increasing collaboration with providers to ensure coverage that is affordable, accessible, appropriate, effective, and equitable. An ideal candidate will be interested in a role working to leverage analytics, data engineering and/or data science in pursuit of better healthcare outcomes for the community.

What Are Your Responsibilities?

As an intern, you will work to find innovative solutions to existing or emerging healthcare challenges. You will use complex healthcare data about our 17 million members and a variety of technical, analytics, data science, and visualization tools to build, deploy and enable predictive models and generate and deliver insights and advanced analytics. 

What skills will make you successful in this internship?

  • Preferred: Familiar with Python, or other languages commonly used for data science

  • Preferred: Experience with SQL, Hive, or other SQL-like query languages

  • Preferred: Previous healthcare, data science, or technology-related internship experience

  • Preferred: Working knowledge of cloud environments such as Azure

  • Knowledge and familiarity with Generative AI technologies is a strong plus.

  • Strong technical foundation in analytics, computer science or data science is a strong plus.

  • Curiosity and a desire to make a substantive impact in healthcare industry is a strong plus.

  • Education or experience with machine learning, statistical analysis, and data visualization practices

  • Analytical mindset and excellent problem-solving skills

  • Enthusiasm to enhance your own professional and personal development.

  • Entrepreneurial and innovation mindset

  • Initiative to handle business problems.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Strategic thinker who can effectively synthesize ideas and convey complex information to variety of audiences.

What Are the Requirements You Must Meet?

  • Enrolled in a master’s or Ph.D. program in an Analytic, Quantitative, Computational, Engineering, or related field.

  • Graduation date between December 2025 - June 2026

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0

  • Availability to work 10 weeks during the summer (June 2025 – August 2025)

  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States (Currently, we are not offering this position with a student visa including F1, OPT, CPT or H1B and are not accepting or sponsoring student work visas for this role)
